The Punta Gorda Isles Canal Maintenance District is responsible for the maintenance of 91 miles of seawall, dredging 45 miles of canals/inlets, and mangrove trimming/alteration within the district canal system.

The Punta Gorda Isles Canal Advisory Committee (PGI CAC) meets 3rd Monday of each month at  1:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers. Must be a resident of Punta Gorda Isles.  Seven member board. 3 year terms-maximum of three terms.

Makes recommendations to City Council on effective maintenance of existing canals, waterways and navigable channels within the district together with the maintenance and reconstruction of seawalls. Holds public hearings and makes determinations on petitions for special permits under the provisions of Section 6-6, of the Punta Gorda Code.

Creation of the District

The Punta Gorda Isles Canal Maintenance Assessment District was created by the City of Punta Gorda by the adoption of Ordinance 1156-96 on July 3, 1996, and is authorized pursuant to Section 189.02, Florida Statutes, for the purpose of the maintenance of canals, waterways, and navigable channels, including the maintenance and reconstruction of bulkheads and retaining walls. The following information is provided in accordance with the Florida Special District Accountability Program.
