Historic District Parking Program Overview
To provide adequate overnight on-street parking for Historic District residents and guests, the City of Punta Gorda adopted Ordinance #1982-2022, on April 6, 2022, prohibiting on-street parking on designated and posted streets during the hours of 1 A.M. to 5 A.M. Notwithstanding the prohibition, owners of residential property adjacent to the designated streets, their tenants and guests will be allowed to engage in on-street parking during the prohibited hours if the parked vehicles visibly display a valid Parking Permit issued by the City.
Who is eligible to apply for a “Parking Permit”?
- Any owner of residential property adjacent to the streets listed below may apply for a “Historic District Parking Permit” by completing a “Historic District Parking Permit” application and submitting the same in person to the City Clerk’s Office.
- The City Clerk’s Office (117 Herald Court, Unit 211) is open Monday through Friday during the hours of 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M.
How many “Parking Permits” can I have?
- A maximum of two (2) Historic District Parking Permits will be issued per each Charlotte County Property Appraiser Parcel ID or Multiple Dwelling Unit associated with such property.
Important “Parking Permit” Information
- It is the responsibility of the property owner to maintain custody and control of any issued Historic District Parking Permit.
- The property owner is authorized to loan a Historic District Parking Permit to any resident, tenant, or guest of the owner. Historic District Parking Permits MUST be displayed hanging from the parked vehicle’s rear-view mirror.
- The City Clerk may issue one (1) replacement permit per year upon payment of a $100.00 fee.
What happens if I do not have a Permit?
- Pursuant to Chapter 23, Section 23–19, Punta Gorda Code, any person violating the provisions of the Historic District Parking Program shall be deemed guilty of a civil infraction which shall be punishable by a fine of twenty-five dollars ($25.00).
- After the third offense, any vehicle found to be in violation of this Section shall be towed at the vehicle owner’s expense in accordance with Section 23-21, Punta Gorda Code.

Streets requiring a Parking Permit for overnight parking between the hours of 1:00 A.M. to 5:00 A.M. are as follows:
- Berry Street Extension
- Berry Street from W. Retta Esplanade to W. Virginia Avenue
- Chasteen Street from W. Retta Esplanade to W. Virginia Avenue
- Dolly Street
- Durrance Street from W. Retta Esplanade to W. Virginia Avenue
- Gilchrist Street
- Gill Street from W. Retta Esplanade to W. Virginia Avenue
- Harvey Street from W. Marion Avenue to W. Virginia Avenue
- Kings Court
- McGregor Street from W. Retta Esplanade to W. Virginia Avenue
- Palm Avenue from Berry Street to Gill Street
- Trabue Avenue
- W. Olympia Avenue from Shreve Street to Goldstein Street
