Fire Operations Division consists of twenty-seven career Firefighter-EMT/Paramedics working a 24-on/48-off schedule. There are eight personnel per shift across three stations commanded by a Battalion Chief.
Suppression Division personnel are trained in the latest methods of medical life support, fire suppression, hazardous materials response/identification, public safety/rescue diving, vehicular extrication, and other rescue situations. They are also involved with the prevention aspect of the fire department operations through pre-fire planning of commercial and multi-family occupancies and the annual in-service inspection program. Personnel also conduct additional programs including smoke/CO detectors, senior and children fire safety, blood pressure checks, fire extinguisher education, home safety checks, etc.
The Division operates two engines and one aerial apparatus with one engine and one truck in reserve. Crews also staff a QRS cart and a 2-person bike medic team for special events.
The Punta Gorda Fire Department maintains a Public Protection Classification (PPC) of 3.
