Harbor conservation is the theme of this year’s Paddle Punta Gorda kayaking event. Participants will be guided by a local naturalist on one of seven area waterways. The Nov. 9 event is sponsored by TEAM Punta Gorda and its Maritime Committee. Registration for $25 per paddler can be made at TEAM’s website teampuntagorda.org. Proceeds will help develop and maintain kayak launches. Waterways will be assigned on the basis of registration order. No event-day registrations will be accepted. Participation is limited to 20 kayakers 18 and older per waterway, for a maximum of 140. The event will begin at 9 a.m. and take from 2 to 2.5 hours to complete. An after-party will be held at the Laishley Park Marine Community Room and will include lunch, free beer, a raffle and, for the first 100 registrants, a “Paddle Punta Gorda” tee shirt. PFDs are required. Bring your own kayak or rent one from the Navigator restaurant on the Peace River or at Ponce de Leon Park. More information is available by contacting TEAM at team@teampuntagorda.org or 941-637-TEAM.
