The Building Division processes all paperwork for contractors' licensing and insurance, plans examination, permit applications, and related field inspections. The Division prides itself on developing a cooperative spirit with the contractors and the community, while enforcing State and City of Punta Gorda mandated codes and ordinances.
The Building Division administers and enforces the codes and adopted standards as they pertain to building and construction in the City of Punta Gorda. The Division has the responsibility to establish that the homes in which the citizens of the community reside, the buildings in which they work, and the buildings in which they dine, shop, and conduct business meet the adopted standards when these buildings are constructed.
The plan review and inspection functions include all commercial and residential construction plan reviews, inspections of these structures while under construction, and the tracking and permitting of the construction process.
Additionally, this Division disseminates Florida Building Code information, Florida Accessibility and Americans with Disabilities Act standards, and Federal Emergency Management Agency guidelines, as they relate to the National Flood Insurance Program.
Office hours are weekdays from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
